The Merlin is a special community theatre set in the scenic grounds of Tintagel House, Nether Edge, Sheffield. The Merlin (widely considered to be one of the most beautiful little theatres in the country) has recently had a major renovation to restore it back to its former glory. Sadly due to flood damage we had to close for 5 years, but now thanks to a miraculous £1m’s fundraising the Merlin is back as good as new. Better than that it’s been completely refitted with luxury seating and state of the art LED lighting! Fit for the next century and reopening a much loved magical venue for Sheffield and beyond. So, the Merlin is now available to you for hire at half terms, holidays and weekends for your performances, concerts, craft fairs and events. There are even special rates for community groups.
For information about booking the theatre or to arrange a visit and tour please email Sarah Spencer, the Merlin Theatre Manager.
The Merlin occupies a unique place in the country’s creative landscape being both a special needs arts space and a thriving community theatre. The Merlin is managed and run by Freeman College and Brantwood Specialist School; national centres of educational excellence for children and young people with autism and a range of behavioural, emotional and mental challenges. It is planned for the Merlin to be run as a social enterprise for and by our students, giving disadvantaged young people rare opportunities to gain work experience in the creative industries. The School and College are part of the Ruskin Mill Trust, a pioneering educational charity with an international reputation for realising the potential of young people with special needs.
